Welcome to Hubzilla!
Hubzilla is the powerful open source privacy-respecting all-in-one home base for collaboration and social interactions.
About the Association
The Hubzilla Association supports the development, promotion, and distribution of the Hubzilla open source software, and helps maintain its documentation and website. We also help provide support in our support forums.
We are in the process of updating this website and updating our documentation, among other things.
Brief History of Hubzilla
Originally called Red, and later Red Matrix, the Hubzilla Project was started in 2012. It traces its roots back to 2010 and is based on the codebase of its predecessors Mistpark, Friendika, and the MIT licensed version of Friendica (forked before they switched to AGPL).
Hubzilla and its predecessors were, and still are, pioneers of the fediverse, being the first to implement ActivityPub, direct messages, groups, permissions, access control, quoted posts, comment controls, federated single sign on, and more. Created before ActivityPub, and before Mastodon, Hubzilla has a rich history of pioneering innovation.
The Hubzilla Association was founded to support the Hubzilla Project in September 2023 and to continue Hubzilla's legacy.
