Connections roles default behaviour

Have opened a 'connection' to edit permissions. The default role was empty (none) and a dialogue window appeared:
"
Please select a role for this contact!
"

If the hub administrator changes the software version, what is the ideal behaviour with 'connections'?
Why do some 'connections' _not_ have a role 'default'?

Where are 'roles' managed?

Tried the channel 'settings', another dialogue box appeared:

"

Since the default role might not be what you want it has been decided to not set a role for connections at all during the upgrade. This way the contact permissions remain exactly as they were prior to the upgrade.

Where are 'roles' managed?

There is a blue button in the contact editor which is labeled "contact roles". This button will bring you to the role management tool aka contact roles app.

Where is the documentation to learn please?

Most things have been covered in the version 7 release announcement.

This is not observed, as described in the bug posted.

As far as i see the issue is about you not having permission to post to some of your contacts. This is not something you can control. This is a permission your contacts have set for you...

Is there a way to understand what is role for contact. I am maybe stupid but never use it. I need example in this use. If I don't use it do I miss something in Hubzilla?

@kris the default contact role is a preset set of permissions that come with the software. You can create your own roles though. If you not sure, it is probably best to assign your connections the default role.

Do not care about the 'connections' activities, want to understand the default behaviour and purpose of roles. Where is the documentation, the decision making process to introduce new bugs, sorry, features?

After the hub software change, some 'connections' have a role 'blank' (empty, no role), some 'connections' have a role 'default'.

The announcement 'hubzilla 70' states that permissions for each 'connection' has been discontinued. It states incorrectly that each 'connection' must be assigned a 'role', this is not observed as described previously.
