How to use website css / themes (foundation 6)

I an not sure how to adapt the appearance of a website. I did see the theme tag for Comanche, but entering in the (otherwise working) layout the tag
[theme]dark[/theme]
(for a test) did not change appearance of a website using that layout, at all. The hosting channel has AllowCode=On granted in admin.

OK, to add details:
F6 states that there is a _settings.scss file in a src folder with every project, where you can customize apprearence and colors. But in Hubzilla, I cannot find this file. And I do not want / know whether I may mess around in the regular files.

So how do I change webpage style in Hubzilla?

Zen does not contain any themeable objects which could be themed by the redbasic theme.

You can write your own css or include foundation or bootstrap with the [css]foundation[/css] tag and use their classes.

I already did the latter (include CSS Foundation). I have not actually yet tried to use standard F6 colors or themese, because F6 says I need to "install" them in my project. But after all, I want to design my own website style, so I would have to know where the code for that goes.

We use it to provide variable names in CSS files. This is currently implemented (as an example interface) in view/theme/redbasic/php/config.php. You can extend this configurability to new themes if you use the same structure.

Bottom line, I would like create an own theme and link that into my website's layout (Comanche). But I do not even succeed to activate an existing alternative sub-theme (or what to do instead).

If you want to use the themes, you should probably not use the zen template. You could use the minimal template instead which still adds the hubzilla css to the head.

@Mario Vavti Finally had time to check: Help does not explain a "minimal" template. But whatever of the five templates (or "minimal") I use above the header:
[theme]redbasic:dark[/theme]
...does not change colors in any of them.

Any idea what I would be using wrong? Here is the layout code:
