Is there a problem with searching/adding new connections - or am I doing it wrong? I enter something like #^https://mastodon.ar.al/@aral in the connections page left column search box ("Find new channels"), and receive back "No entries; some entries may be hidden". I think this used to work, in previous versions.

Find new channels is for searching the directory.
To add new connections use the green add button in the middle column.

Yes! - I'd forgotten about the green add button - and it works, when the full address is known. What is the scope of the "Find new channels" search? I would have thought that providing the full address there, should find the connection. If it did, there would not be a need for two separate buttons.

If I want to search for, say, "Mario Vavti" from the common search bar in Akkoma, he can be found like that. Would it not be possible to make the entire fediverse the scope of a search in Hubzilla?

Interesting concept. It would be hard to search the entire fediverse, but perhaps a directory search could include ActivityPub channels that the hub or directory knows about. After all, when you add a ActivityPub contact, it goes into the hub's local database.

If we do that, it would be nice if the local hub admin can determine whether these appear or not.
