Do desktop notifications and auto refresh work for you guys?

My usage pattern would makes auto-refresh not so obvious, but if the redrawing of pages to collapse expanded messages is a side-effect of auto-refresh, then I see it. Updating notifications after I swap back to the tab might be another auto-refresh thing I see.

As for desktop notifications, I see one maybe once a week or so. It is infrequent enough than I haven't noticed the pattern as to what is different at the times it happens.
