It is possible to reinstall Hubzilla but keep using the same database?

I have a version 7.2 that can't be updated because Softaculous did not install in via Git. Manually updating it does not seem to work either.

Can I delete the old files, reinstall the files using git, and then tell it to use the old database?

I've done a reinstall like that a few times. It works fine.

As @Harald Eilertsen said, keep your store directory and .htconfig.php file.

The git command (in the install instructions) for cloning Hubzilla doesn't allow cloning into a directory that has files in it.

Is there a flag I can add to the command that leaves undeleted items such as the store directory and .htconflig.php intact, or do I just delete everything, clone the repository, and then copy those files back after cloning?

1: Backup /store/ and .htconfig.php
2: Delete everything so the folder is empty.
3: git clone
4: Copy /store/ and .htconfig.php back in.

The default .gitignore has /store/ and .htconfig.php in it so you don't have to worry about not tracking them.

If the folder has other non Hubzilla related stuff, then you need to git init, checkout, and merge. It's more complicated, so try doing an empty folder if you can.

Thank you. I just wanted to make sure before I did anything, in order to avoid data loss.

As a side note: Because it is a cPanel server, I shouldn't delete the public_html folder since that is a system generated folder. Although I can re-create it, it takes more than chmod to put it back the way cPanel expects it. But deleting everything in public_html works just fine as far as git is concerned.
