I have tried this on multiple devices. When you are logged out of Hubzilla 7.8.6 (Redbasic Theme), and viewing it on a mobile device, the arrow button in the nav bar used to expand the sidebar does not work. It does work when you are logged in, however.

Can not reproduce here. You probably see an error in the js console if it does not work. This could help to find the reason...

The problem is that It starts getting weird if you have three themes in play.

Site 1 has red basic and new-theme.
Site 2 has red basic and yet-another-theme.

Currently, you can't have new-theme and yet-another-theme activated at the same time, because one of the hubs will default to red basic since it can't find the theme.

And then you might have the issue where red basic has been disabled by the admin. The admin would not want it to default to red basic in that case. They'd want it to default to their site theme.

Maybe the easiest solution is to have it default to the site theme instead of red basic when the desired channel theme is not found.

That would not cover all scenarios, but would cover scenarios where a hub has set another theme as default.

The general rule is that if a custom theme on a different site is your default theme and it isn't available on the clone, you'll fall back to redbasic. If it does something different, please let us know. Also if you've got a better idea...

Ideally, it falls back to the site theme the hub admin set. This is important if the hub has additional features that would be inaccessible if it fell back to redbasic.

Hardcoding themes if it's theoretically possible to remove them and replace them entirely with something else should be avoided IMHO.

The problem is that different hubs might have different themes and different addons installed. So you can only guarantee that redbasic is available.

But, defaulting to redbasic does not work if a hub has additional content. For example, if you have a knowledge base or recipes on your hub, the redbasic theme will not have any navigation to those pages. The user will be unable to access the rest of the website if you default to redbasic.

That is why it is better to default to whatever theme the admin has set as default. That way site navigation is preserved.

Exactly. What I've meant is that hardcoding Redbasic as a default doesn't make sense if it's possible and sometimes maybe even sensible to remove it.

If you use the existing infrastructure to extend Hubzilla (addons, apps, widgets) navigating those places should not be a problem.

@Scott M. Stolz if you create a ne module/app via an addon you should be able to add a .pdl file which will tell the theme what should be displayed in which region.

The app link can be placed in the app bin or navbar depending on the categories which can be set in the app description file.

@Scott M. Stolz well, there certainly are limitations. Especially if regions are not compatible between themes. I was mainly referring to the navigation issue bexause the apps infrastructure is very mighty in regard to this.

If a theme is not available on a clone, there is not much we can do about besides falling back to a default.

Maybe I was doing something wrong, but that was not the behavior I observed. It defaulted to redbasic despite the admin setting a different default theme.

I will do more testing to see if I made a mistake, but I did fight with it for hours trying to figure out a way to get it to default to something other than redbasic.

@Scott M. Stolz Since you run both websites/hubs, you could install both themes on each of them so that the respective fallback looks like the original.

Your problem will return, however, once you decide to mirror your channels to hubs not run by you. But you can't do much about that.

However, it is defaulting to redbasic when the channel theme cannot be found, not the default site theme.

@Scott M. Stolz this can probably be fixed relatively easy*. Before defaulting to redbasic, check if there is a default thene set by the admin and if it really exists. Then default to this if it does or to redbasic if it does not.

Yes. There are some old ones out there already. Most have not been updated in a while.

I am working on some new ones, but they are not ready yet. I am hoping to have them done soon.
