The screenshot is an example of this behavior.

Any suggestions or ideas how I could fix this?

Are the folders and subfolders in store/[data]/[xchan] writeable by the webserver?

I don't know if it's related, but I've had some avatars missing since the last few weeks. I thought I was blocked for some reason, but I am not. It looks like this:

Although this won't solve the problem of missing avatars, the following code added to the avatar img tags in conv_item.tpl would at least make it look prettier.
