When I started to use Hubzilla I did wonder why everything is base 64 encoded. Sure, I do understand if items are not public but based on what I see in my stream a lot of posts, including their images are public.

Side effect is that every post needs to be decrypted again. Wasting a lot of cpu that is not always needed.

Did anyone thing of a set of rules to at least keep the images public when they are part of a public post? I know cached items currently are only served from memory (at least that is my conclusion from watching the 2xx entries in the logfiles. Only a few pictures/images are public and give a 3xx

For forums there would be great option to copy the images to the forum storage. When originating channel goes offline, post remains but image disappears which could lead to undesired information inconsistency. I guess also channel cloning and moving to other location is inconsistent with forum post images. Or is there a (planned) mechanism in Zot so they get updated when changing primary location?
