New installation - how to get access

sorry, I am new to Hubzilla and all that. Not sure, if I am at the right place at all (and it was not easy to even get here...).
I just installed Hubzilla in my homelab (using docker; had to fiddle around with the dockerfile to get this to build) to have some fun with it and learn. But I am struggling even logging in as the admin for the first time:
It is my understanding that I need to register as a user first, using the admin email address I set in the .env file. But when I enter my details, including such email address, confirm that I am at least 13 years old and submit, the page just reloads and no email is sent out.
It is also my understanding that emails are (or should be) sent out using msmtp. But I do not find a log of that failing (and I also don't see any trace of its trying to connect to my email server in my email server's logs).
Can someone please tell me if this is the right way to get admin access in the first place or whether there is a default password I can use to log in?
