I think we get 2 notifications for a shared message -- one that the sharer shared it and another than the original poster posted it. You can turn off like/dislike notifications. I wish you could turn off the share notification. Or, (and this applies to like/dislike) I wish you could limit it to those actions on your own messages. While I might be interested to know if someone liked/disliked/shared my message, I don't care to know if someone does that to someone else's message.

1: posts of your connections with possible unseen reactions or comments count at the bottom right
2: notifications for unseen posts, comments and reactions
You can turn of most stuff in 2 in your Channel Settings > Notification Settings if you do not need it. The intention of 1 is to provide a calmed down view on your connections contributions, reducing the buzz of activities of their contacts.

1.) is really a nice calmed down view and most time just enough for me
2.) is a bit like Masto local or public Timeline depending which widget slide down you choose.
"Network": post from your connections + public posts of their connections + sharing and repeating, liking,
"Public Stream": all kind of public posts from your hub + public posts form other hubs ( depending on how the admin of your hub did set up the public stream) + sharing and repeating, liking
1.) is just always up do date. A downside of 2.) is that is can be slow in loading.
